What is People Manager Development?
Most managers are promoted for being excellent individual contributors, then asked to do an entirely different job with no preparation. This program equips managers with the practical skills needed to lead people, set expectations, manage performance and create an environment of accountability.

How this program is delivered
Programs are built from your objectives, not from a fixed catalogue. After a short discovery conversation we propose the structure, duration, participant groups and the measures we will review afterwards — so you know what you are buying before you commit.
- Discovery call — we understand the capability gap, the participants and the business outcome.
- Proposal — recommended structure, duration, format and investment.
- Design — content built around your scenarios, reviewed with you before delivery.
- Delivery — facilitated sessions with practice, discussion and action planning.
- Review — feedback, action plan follow-up and the measures agreed at the start.

People Manager Development — your questions
What does a people manager program cover?
Building trust, setting clear expectations and SMART goals, delegation, constructive feedback, effective one-on-ones, managing underperformance, motivation and engagement, resolving team conflict, and coaching for development.
Is this suitable for newly promoted managers?
It is designed for exactly that transition. The skills that earn a promotion — personal output and technical depth — are not the skills the new role requires, and the habits formed in the first year tend to persist for a career.
Do you involve the participants' own managers?
Yes, and it matters. A short manager briefing before the program and a structured conversation at six weeks is one of the highest-return elements of any intervention. Without it, learning decays within weeks.
What does Xcellence-Zone do?
Xcellence-Zone is a corporate learning and development partner. We design and facilitate leadership development, corporate soft skills, people manager development, communication, teamwork and customized corporate training programs for organizations across India and internationally.
Who leads the programs?
Programs are led by Sumeet Kapoor, who spent 20+ years with Oberoi Hotels, American Express, Steria India, TCS, Credence and First Source as Director Operations, leading 750+ FTE across sites in the US, UK and India, and headed Learning and Development for 2000+ employees.
Do you offer standard courses or customized programs?
Programs are customized. We start from your objectives, participant profiles and the capability gap you have identified, then design the structure around that. Standard modules exist as a starting point, but the content, scenarios and case studies are adapted to your organization.
What is the minimum engagement size?
We have run programs for a single team of twelve and for organization-wide rollouts of several hundred participants. There is no fixed minimum — the design and cohort structure change with scale, not the quality of facilitation.
How is a program structured?
Six steps: Discover the business context, Diagnose the capability gaps, Design a customized structure, Deliver facilitated sessions, Apply through workplace action plans, and Review against the measures agreed at the start.
